Lilac
Botanical Name =Syringa ["syrinx" from the Greek, for 'pipe'; the pithy stems were used by Turks to make pipes]
Family = Oleaceae
Lilac fr. Arabic "laylac"
(Persian "nylac" means "blue)
The lilac tree is related to the Olive tree. In Greece, Cyprus and Lebanon, lilacs are popular Easter blooms.
A tea can be made from the leaves, flowers, and finer branches (when I find out how to do this, I will add the information).
Lilacs are so powerfully fragrant, that even when they die, they keep their perfume: if you burn the wood, the fragrance will be in the smoke. Thus, lilacs became symbolic ... to mean 'forever'.
