Description
Europeans love their window boxes and whether you are in a large urban centre, or in the countryside, whether the owner is rich or poor, you will see gorgeous, colourful splashes of blooms that you are less likely to see on the North American side (more particularly, in Canada or the United States).
This is something I would really like to see here, especially since I've noticed less blooms are being planted each year, and those that are being sown seem to be rather tame of colour. In fact, lately I've seen a great deal of white flowers "contrasting" against grey cement -- hopefully these were mistakes rather than a growing trend -- and while I dearly love greyscale monochrome, when it comes to floral blooms, I'd love to see some splashes of colour against the hardened concrete.
In Switzerland, balconies, shutters and window boxes are in abundance; colours are lavish and profuse. This is but one. This is a window box for an international bank, an incredibly beautiful building - rich with blooms.

So very rich and colourful image and full of life. This is exactly what I like about European cities. In reading your description, you are right about the fact that this is less likely to be seen in most Canadian and US cities. And the colour makes all the difference. Wonderful find and a great shot Connie. P.S. I love images of doors and windows like that (I have posted a few myself). So if you have more of these beauties, please share them with the rest of us.. LOL. Awesome image.

This is extraordinary, Connie....inside and out of the building these would look fantastic! Reading your story I realized how rare something like this is in the States, especially in my part of the world, and yet my Mom has one in front of her kitchen window that overlooks a fish pond outside. This is so beautiful, just the design of the box with its carved corbels is cool! F/L

Hi Jerry! they're definitely rare in our neck of the woods, & how fantastic your mother has one, good for her! I straightened this image a few times but each time I did, some of the blooms were cut off so .. I left it 'as is' .. au naturelle , *clicked* as I looked up {from a bit of an odd angle} ; I'll be posting more window boxes over time .. stay tuned :)))

Haha! .. you picked up on that, did you? good for you {sometimes my humour is Dry & can get missed} ; the colours mesmerize like an optical illusion if looked at too long. I thought of doing this as a 'watercolour effect' .. {still might} .. but that would tone down these brilliant colours tremendously ... {& you'd all miss out on the optical illusion} :)))
