Description
I longed to arrest all beauty that came before me, and at length the longing has been satisfied.

Lilac
Botanical Name = Syringa ["syrinx" from the Greek, for 'pipe'; the pithy stems were used by Turks to make pipes]
Family = Oleaceae
Lilac fr. Arabic "laylac"
(Persian "nylac" means "blue)
The lilac tree is related to the Olive tree. In Greece, Cyprus and Lebanon, lilacs are popular Easter blooms.
A tea can be made from the leaves, flowers, and finer branches.
Lilacs are so powerfully fragrant, that even when they die, they keep their perfume: if you burn the wood, the fragrance will be in the smoke. Thus, lilacs became symbolic ... to mean 'forever'.

I'm watching closely the two little lilac trees that have been planted on the boulevard down the street, looking forward to their blooms. They are small now, but one day they won't be, and even with their small size, I've noticed the bees gravitate to them easily. Our bees need all the help they can get nowadays, so I was grateful to the owner who planted these (I've noticed our municipality is still cutting down full grown flowering bushes - replacing them with rocks or grass - this is not a pollinator friendly habit!).
So, I long for two things: for the city to please stop cutting down our precious greenery, and for these little lilac trees to please show me its blooms when there is no wind or rain. Please :)
My original lilac macro image from last year's little tree blooms ... taken in natural light; uncropped ... with a background I created for it, wiped over with a wee bit of texture ... nature in all its fragrant, soft splendour :)

Beautifully delicate, soft and romantic! I love your informative descriptions. I have many lilacs planted and always discard my prunings....from now on I'll be saving them for winter fires. LF
Connie Handscomb replied:
Oh, wow... super! I'm so pleased, Malinda! It sounds terrific, to have the scented wood, I do hope it is as wonderful as it sounds. (Oh, How nice! You have several lilacs! Bees must buzz happily there) :)) {& thank you!}
