UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ref. 267.

The capital city of Switzerland is the beautiful cobbled city of historic Bern. It is a university city, the seat of the Federal Assembly and headquarters for several international organizations.

For all this, it is still relatively small for an urban city (population about 130,000 in the city proper) and still retains a unique medieval charm, and the six kilometres of Old City in the heart of Bern, with its ancient red-roofed structures, is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ref. 267.

The city was founded in 1191, with its coat of arms being a bear. It was named after the first animal that was killed by the duke at this new settlement: Bär is German for bear; hence, the name city name Bärn .... now Bern.

Many famous people have lived in Bern, one of them being Albert Einstein who came up with is theory of...
