Description
So extraordinary is Nature with her choicest treasures, spending plant beauty as she spends sunshine, pouring it forth into land and sea, garden and desert.
~ John Muir

Gaillardia (blanket flower; Indian blanket; firewheel)
Gaillardia aristata Pursh n; Gaillardia pulchella
Family : Asteraceae ; Compositaeae (Sunflower)
A French botanist, Gaillard de Marentonneau, provided this wildflower with its name, and the word Aristata means bearded, which refers to the several bristles on this plant (more noticeable when its seeds fall).
You can see this wildflower on open hillsides and drier areas throughout the summer and autumn throughout North America.

While the angle of this particular image does not show it, the colourful centre acts as a beacon to the bees that love to visit this bloom, and it has become a popular flower to plant in the garden.
Taken in natural light ; Undedited; Uncropped, : Nature in all its natural splendour.
